EMERGENCE
Emergence was my high school final year Body of Work (BOW). It was chosen to be exhibited as part of First Class 12 at the Lake Macquarie
City Art Gallery.
City Art Gallery.
I am on the brink, between childhood and adulthood. I am drowning in pressure, obligations, workload. The music is the only thing that keeps me afloat. The ocean is the only thing that keeps me grounded. But they are distractions, and in the meantime the dark monster of time sinks its claws is me.
The core issue my work explores is the immense trepidation associated with this phase of my life, the brink between childhood and adulthood, and my choice to escape through music. I chose drawing as an artmaking form as I've been a drawerer since I could hold a pencil. I also used watercolour and ink as their water-base corresponds to the oceanic theme throughout my work. A combination of impatience and perfectionism led me to creating such a large volume of pieces. My greatest inspiration was Frida Kahlo because we were both ill children with a great fasciantion with self portraits. "I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best."
